A Girl's Obsession

In every magazine I've ever read, every style website I've ever visited and every style book I've ever pawed through, I have never not seen at least one mention of the stiletto heel. Fuck diamonds, these babies are necessities! I'm only 15 and 4 inch heels are no longer high enough. Mum's losing her mind!

Anyway, stilettos are the shoe that you can never have too many pairs of - in our eyes - yet always to many - in the eyes of our fathers, grandfathers, uncles, boyfriends; pretty any kind of man in our lives. But when you walk into a store and you lay your eyes of what you deem the perfect pair, that you swear you will wear everywhere, that you fall irrevocably in love with when you see them on your feet, you almost have no choice but to buy them. And then, almost too soon, you see yet another perfect pair. It's a vicious cycle. And as long as women exist, these babies are never going away.

I'm pretty sure designers have complete knowledge of this fact, which is why they keep setting more temptations in our way, with beautiful shoes that will go with nothing in your wardrobe, but are just so darn amazing! Below are just a few that, if my bank account was big enough, and if I was crazy enough, would totally be in my wardrobe right now.

Be Bold, Be Colourful

Okay so I know I haven't updated in a few days, I've had a hectic weekend and it seems my school wants to drill me to the ground with work right before our trials in a few weeks! :( In saying that, I know I also haven't replied to ANY of your comments to thank you all and follow back, and I haven't been keeping up to date with the blogosphere. Again, really sorry, and as soon as this stupid assignment I'm working on is finished, I'll get on it. But for now, let's talk about one of my favourite styles at the moment - colour blocking!

Yes for all you lucky birdies in America/Europe, this trend has come and (almost) gone, but since we like to be the last to receive everything down here in Aus, colour blocking is just emerging and seeping its way on the racks of our favourite stores (Zara anyone?)

So here are a few tips and a little advice if you're not sure about the trend or are just hearing about it. If none of those are applicable to you, just scroll for the pretty pictures! :)

Match back with neutrals
This is a super sophisticated and perfect for your little office/business-y job and is a great way to wear any caramel, khaki or cream-coloured pieces you may have bought over Autumn/Winter.

Stick with 2 - 3 colours

Wearing blocks of bright colour will definitely draw attention, but be warned: the more colours you add the more you effectively add to your frame, making you appear wider and shorter. Instead use a limited colour palette to your advantage – if you are short, a cropped blazer and high-waisted pants will elongate your frame and if you want to disguise your bottom half, then wear a brightly coloured top with a pair of pants in a darker shade.

Be Bright!

This is not the time to be pulling out that dusty pale blue jumper your grandma knit you for your birthday a few years ago and matching it with an uber-sexy lemon cardigan.  Bright colours are what make this trend look modern, so go for ultramarines, purples, fuchsias and oranges.

Don't be afraid, Embrace it!

Find a couple of shades that really complement your skin tone, and you'll rock this trend. If bright colour is still a scary prospect for you and your neutral tones or you don’t want to spend that much money on a wardrobe that might be unusable in a few seasons, then go for colour in your accessories. Adding a bright scarf, bangle, bag or pair of shoes will lift your outfit without being over the top. Still not convinced? There's always nail polish and even makeup!

Inspiring Inspirations!

I'm about to tell you all some bad news - it may be even worse than an apocalyptic ending to the world, and if you cry, I did warn you. Brace yourselves... I won't be blogging until Monday! I KNOW! The reason is that my parents are going away for the weekend, meaning I have to stay at my grandmother's, and she has no internet! So if I don't die of deprivation, I WILL be back on Monday! If I am dead, I will tell one of my best friends to blog a post that says so!

I thought, since you will all be truly and utterly devastated in my absence, that I would share with you some of my inspiring inspirations (alliteration!), which, hopefully, will ease your pain. They're gorgeous, I promise, and they're all just so different to one another, it's strange how they can be liked by the same person but, I assure you, I am not bipolar, but 'bi-winning' (sorry for the lame Charlie Sheen quote, I won't do it again I promise). Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
