F is for Flare

As the start of Winter rapidly approaches, I have discovered I have come to a loss - I have NO winter clothes. Many of my friends may argue, as their idea of a winter wardrobe is a few T-shirts and jeans, but I'm one for freaking out and overbuying for just about EVERY season.

So today I, being the cool person I am, searched high and low for new and improved winter trends, and was surprised and unsurprised to find that the flare pants have come back full throttle. Now I have not been living under a rock, I assure you, but I was shocked to find that they're just about everywhere - Paris, New York, Milan and all over Europe outside, inside and on the fashion shows.

I for one am a huge fan of reawakening once coveted styles, so it was quite a happy surprise, because adding a bit of flare can make any outfit look totally retro and cool. The simplest outfit can be boosted with the right pair of flare pants and that gorgeous pair of heels/ankle boots, which means little effort = big impact, which is good news for just about everyone!

What are your thoughts on the once-unanimously loved 70s style that's back in business? Are we ready to jump into them or sticking to our much loved skinny leg?

Stylish Saturdays: Paint the Town

As Winter rapidly approaches down in the Southern Hemisphere, many fashionistas start to fret about how to put a fresh spin on outfits, as usual winter styles consist of the basic neutrals, greys and blacks, with barely any of the beautiful, rich and vibrant colours of the warmer months until, that is, this particular season. Many fashion Houses went crazy trying to create a line that was both simple and fabulous, and they discovered the perfect solution - colour!

Whether it's a bright lip or a multi-coloured jumpsuit, colour is the way to go this Fall/Winter. Brighten your day and everyone else's by experimenting with reds, greens, yellows and oranges, and don't always model your looks on models and collections, we're human, not supermodels!

While there are so many outfits I could show you full of colour, out of all that I found on the streets throughout Fashion month, this was my absolute favourite.

This shot was taken on the streets during London Fashion Week, and I absolutely fell in love with it. It's so simplistic and easy but fun and gorgeous, and I just love how her puppy's sweater matches her pants! I love it that much, that I decided to blog about it so it would give me an excuse to find the perfect places to find pieces like this, so this is for my benefit as much as it is for yours!

It may not be the easiest outfit to pull off, and it took me forever to find everything and she still looks better, but a lot of the pieces can be worn with other outfits (maybe except those pants), and it's a look that will definitely bring with it a happy and colourful Winter to both it's wearer and those who see her!

Sophisticated '70s Glamour

With spring and summer just around the corner for all you lucky people who live in the Northern Hemisphere (unlike me), there are SO many new exciting and amazing styles that are being brought in - some old and some new, and one of the most celebrated styles is 70s glamour. There are two main aesthetics: '70s bohemian and '70s sophisticated glamour. When it comes to the latter, think dresses that fall like shimmering water by night and high waisted pants with elegant blouses by day.

By Day...

There are so many fun and creative ways that you can create your perfect day look in this particular category of style, but from everything I found, this was by far my favourite outfit.

By Night...

Dresses are naturally gorgeous little things, but in 70s glam the dresses become that much more amazing. Of course, it's not always easy to find a dress such as this for an affordable price (and if you have, please tell me where to find one, because I have been extremely unsuccessful at the moment), so sheer jumpsuits have been added to many collections.

Since it's as easy to find a sheer reasonably priced dress as it is to find a bargain in Chanel, I thought the jumpsuit look would serve the same purpose, and it can also be worn in a lot of different ways, so if you don't have a jumpsuit, it would be a great idea to invest in at least one before Summer (I have about 5, I love them so much!)

Accessories are key when it comes to creating a '70s look. Some things to keep in mind:
The right handbag completes a look. Try for smart, high quality bags like a leather satchel for day, and a small bag with a long strap for night.
Big, statement leather belts slung over mini skirts or maxi dresses add impact and fair to a seventies-inspired outfit.
A pair of on-trend thigh high boots are probably already be in your wardrobe by now - pair them with hot pants or a skirt for a decidedly sexed-up yet sophisticated '70s look.
Wear lots of jewellery - but keep it a little cleaner than for a boho look. Try lots of rings with bold stones, neat piles of bangles, and long pendant necklaces and strings of beads.
Look to complimentary hairstyles like a sleek longer bob, masses of bouncy curls, or long, flowing hair.
If you want to try the 70s style this Summer, make sure to find a look that suits you; the above were only examples, don't base your 70s style solely on these ideas. It's all about having fun and mixing it up, so whatever your style, follow it!
