Miss Anja Rubik

Good morning fellow bloggers wherever in the world you are, because I'm sure that no matter where you are, it's amazing! I've been reading so much lately and relaxing (which is weird because pretty much all my assignments are due this week) that I've been placed in an exuberant mood that won't go away! I'm sure my friends are sick of me already!

Well, a few days ago, I blogged about some of the photo shoots in Vogue Australia (clickey clickey, you know you want to! Vogue Australia?!), and it turns out it was the model in both of them! She looked so different in both, but it WAS her. But who was she? I'd never heard of her before, but I'm sure others have. Is she new or a recognised face on the model scene? Let's find out!

Anja Rubik is a Polish model born in Poland June 12 1983. She and her family left Poland when she was 5 years old and lived in Greece, Canada and Umtata (South Africa), and she studied at at a British high school in Paris, where she was introduced to modelling. She wanted to finish her schooling before officially becoming a model, so she only worked through the holidays.

She began her career soon after graduating and since then has been featured on  the covers of various magazines, including French, Korean, Japanese, Spanish and German Vogue, Numero, Flair, Russh, Nylon and Elle, and in editorials for Numero, i-D, W MAgazine, V Magazine, Harpers Bazaar and Vogue. She has modelled for Givenchy, Chloe, Christian Dior, Hermes, Valentino, Gucci, H&M, Gap, Fendi, Missoni, Versace. Dolce & Gabanna, Oscar de la Renta, Chanel, Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton and Ralph Lauren, and has been featured in haute couture for Valentino, Chanel, Christian Lacroix and Elie Saab. That's a hefty list!

Anja Rubik has been said to have 'the total package: perfect skin, amazing walk and the only model I can think of that never requires alterations at fittings... Most models would have ruined their careers by cutting off their hair, but it sees to have catapulted her superstar ranks.' - James Scully, casting agent.

She was one of the faces to land in one of the fourteen covers of V magazine in September 2008, each boasting a head shot of a famous model, either from a new crop of leading models or the supermodel era, appeared in the 2009 & 2010 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, and Vogue Paris declared her one of the top 30 models of the 2000s. She is currently ranked equal third on the Top 50 Models Women List and 23rd on the Top 15 Money Girls List, which makes her one of the highest earning high fashion models in the industry.

This year she has already been featured in the Pirelli Calendar photographed by Karl Lagerfeld, has become one of the models to star in Lacoste's "new look"campaign in January, which has a different advertising concept under the new tagline "Unconventional Chic", and has renewed her contract with Fendi for the third season in a row.

For someone as famous as she, you'd think she'd get a lot of publicity, but modelling isn't really a sure-fire way to get yourself recognised, unless you're amazing at it, and it looks like she already is, and here are the photos to prove it!

I don't know why I love her so much - she's just amazing! She's absolutely gorgeous of course, but there's something different about her, and she's so inspirational! What do you think about Miss Anja? Do you think she stands out or blends in with the rest of the skinny blonde models of the world?

ASOS Spring/Summer 2011 Lookbook

I'll admit, before today I had no idea that the brand ASOS even existed, but while searching this season's new lookbook, it popped up, and I have to admit, I was impressed.

Asos is England's largest online-only fashion and beauty store. Its target market is both men and women between the ages of 16-34 (I know, very specific), and it offers over 35000 own label and branded fashion goods.

This season's lookbook is the essence of this Spring's style; silky soft textures and more visionary tailoring patterns. The ASOS Spring/Summer 2011 lookbook shows off a set of stylish outfit ideas which revolve around the very popular bohemian chic trend. Gone are the days of style limitations, it's time to bring out the inner style enigma with these faddish looks!

I don't even know which ones are my favourites, they're all amazing, except the first and twelfth ensembles are more my style, with their gorgeous subtle tones and beautiful finishes.
So this season, make sure to give your wardrobe a makeover with the hottest looks inspired by the Boho style (well, the hottest that most can afford, I'm pointing at me) that ruled the catwalk this season. Make all your appearances spectacular by spotting the clothing items and style accessories that helps you stand out from the crowd and stand up against dull, drab looks. Rock the stylish maxi skirts, pleated dresses, as well as the more muted and pastel shades to show off your creativity and style. Add an edge to your apparel by pulling off some surprising outfit ideas, or you can keep things more simply and classy with the time-tested and safest outfit combos (that's me!).

What do you think of the new ASOS lookbook? Are you more of an adventurous dresser or do you prefer the safer, classic looks?

We Love You Abbey!

For those of you who have ever heard of the word fashion, you have probably heard the name 'Abbey Lee Kershaw' being tossed around with words such as 'Chanel', 'Dior', D&G' and 'Versace', and while we all know these words, who is this popular supermodel with her big, wide-set blue eyes and sweet angelic face that has slipped under the radar of many until recently?

Abbey Lee Kershaw is an Australian Supermodel, and was born in Melbourne, Australia on June 12, 1987. She is currently ranked No. 5 on the Top 50 Models Women list by models.com and is also ranked 21st on the Top Money Girls list, also by models.com. She was first discovered when she won the prestigious Australian Girlfriend Model Search in 2004. After high school she moved to Sydney to begin modelling and got scouted by Chic Management's Kathy Ward, the model scout that also discovered many big-name Australian models such as Miranda Kerr and Samantha Harris, and within weeks Miss Kershaw was signed with Chic Management and ready for the runway!

In 2007, Abbey signed with Next Management and by March had moved to the Big City, and by December 11 of the same year, models.com named her the 'Next Superstar'. From there, Abbey's career boomed. At New York Fashion Week she turned heads with her Lauren Hutton-esqu gap tooth and her pierced nose. She somehow managed to walk in a staggering total of 29 shows, walking for designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Halston and notably for Rodarte. She was one of the fresh faces to land in one of the fourteen covers of V magazine Fall issue, with others including Anna Selezneva and Eniko Mihalik. Each cover boasted a head shot of a famous model, either from the new parade or the current crowd, such as Lara Stone, Natasha Poly and Agyness Deyn.
Miss Kershaw has emerged as the hottest face of 2010, heavily in demand for campaigns, shoots and shows. She was featured in the 2010 and 2011 Pirelli Calendar. In March 2010, it was announced that she would be the face of Chanel's Fall/Winter ready-to-wear campaign, news which came after she closed the Chanel Spring 2010 couture show and opened the Chanel Fall/Winter 2010/2011 ready-to-wear show. V Magazine's 'The Discovery Issue' crowned Abbey Lee as the new supermodel, declaring that even though Abbey has been rising through the ranks for years, last season, and probably this season, belong to her.
